What are the Lowest Electricity Rates in the AEP North Delivery Area in Texas for December 2020?

Power to Choose is a website created by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) that lists electricity plans offered by certified Retail Energy Providers (REPs). Our team at energysavings.com has been capturing daily snapshots of the energy plans offered on the Power to Choose site and has put together the following information regarding the energy plans offered during the month of December 2020 for the AEP North delivery area. Please click here for a map that shows the location of the transmission and distribution utilities in competitive areas. Please note that as rates may change at any time in the day on the Power to Choose site, the following analysis is only based on information captured in our snapshots each month.

Market trend: AEP North area showed stable rates during the month of December 2020 according to our analysis of the data from the Power to Choose website for the types of energy plans discussed in this report.

Energy Monger was showing the lowest rate in this table. The plan is called “12 Month E-Pay / E-Bill (Web Only).”  

TXU Energy was showing a complaint rating of 5 on the Power to Choose website for December 2020. The rate they offered in this category is neither the lowest nor the highest of this table. The plan they offered is the “Simple value 12,” and it includes early cancellation fee.

 Ambit Energy offered the highest rate of this table with a plan called “Lone Star Classic 12.” This REP has a complaint rating of 3 on the Power to Choose website in December 2020.

Southern Federal Power was the REP that offered the cheapest rate for a 24-month term fixed rate plan in December 2020. The plan’s name is “SoFed Better Rate-24.” There is early termination fee for this plan.

Trieagle Energy offered the highest rate of this table. Their plan is called “Eagle 24.” According to the special terms this REP provided for this product on the Power to Choose website, this REP is offering weekly usage e-mails.

Southern Federal Power is the REP that offered the lowest rate with the “Variable Advantage: Month-to-Month” plan as long as a customer is looking to sign up for e-billing and autopay.

The highest rate was offered by Ambit Energy with the “Lone Star Flex.”

3. 100% Green Plans

In December 2020, Gexa Energy and Frontier Utilities were battling for the lowest rate spot in this table. “Gexa Choice Green 12” was the plan offered by Gexa Energy. Frontier Utilities offered the “Eco Green 12” plan. Those two products are similar, and they both have an early termination fee.

Iberdrola Texas is the REP that showed the highest rate. The plan is called “Wind by TX 12” and also has an early termination fee. They offer a discount to the price shown if the customer signs up for autopay.

Chariot Energy was rated 4 on Power to Choose during December 2020. Their  “Chariot Choice 24” plan was the one that offered the lowest rate during that period for a 24-month 100% green plan.

Iberdrola Texas is showing the highest rate plan. Their plan is the “Wind by TX 24.” Similar to their 12-month 100% green plan, this 24-month 100% green also offers an additional discount if the customer signs up for autopay.

Infuse Energy is rated 5 on Power to Choose in December 2020. The plan “Keep It Simple Savings Green Flex” was the one showing the lowest rate for this month for a variable rate 100% green plan. Note that their EFL states that “You will incur a fee of $5.00 per billing period if you are not enrolled in Autopay”.

The REP that had the highest rate is Ambit Energy. The plan name is “Ambit Green Texas Flex.”

The tables above list the lowest price in cents/kWh offered by each retail electricity provider (REP) for a given type of plan for a monthly usage of 2000 kWh.
