Data collected* are analyzed monthly to give you an understanding of the offers available and the market trends. Grouping the most common plans by category, we analyze the same plan categories every month to give you an apples-to-apples comparison.

This table compares the lowest price offered by each Retail Electric Provider that offered the respective type of plan in each month.  The “Highest” row above shows the highest price among all the lowest price plans offered by Retail Electric Providers offering that type of plan in this region for each month.

 

  • Fixed rate category: we captured an increase for the highest rate (9%); the average rate also increased slightly by 1%. VARSITY ENERGY LLC has started to show offers on the Power to Choose website in June 2021 in this delivery area.
  • Variable rate category: we observed an increase in the lowest rate by 2%; the average rate also increased by 3%. RANCHERO POWER started to offer variable plans in June as we noticed that this provider started to show offers on Power to Choose website in June 2021.

Between May and June, the number of Retail Electric Providers showing offers in the fixed price category on the Power to Choose website decreased for the fixed rate plan’s category (IBERDROLA TEXAS stopped showing offers in June 2021).  The number of Retail Electric Providers in the variable rate category didn’t change. We observed only slight variations regarding prices between those two periods for these two categories of plans that are shown in the table above.

Taking into consideration the lowest rates, our table shows that 100% green plans in CenterPoint are on average 8% more expensive for the fixed rate category and 28% more expensive for the variable rate category.

Let’s compare those percentages using a 1000 kWh monthly usage and the lowest rates: the 100% green fixed rate plan will cost you $3 more each month while the 100% green variable rate plan will cost you $35 more each month. Which type of rate would you choose if you decide to go Green? If you prefer to subscribe to a non-green plan but do want to do good for the planet, you could look into buying carbon offsets separately. FRONTIER UTILITIES and POWERNEXT held the lowest price spot and AMBIT ENERGY offered the highest rate in this plan category in June 2021. Of the electricity providers in this list, 77% changed their prices. Among the ones that changed their prices during the month, the majority of them increased their rates.

SOUTHERN FEDERAL POWER LLC offered the lowest price this month while AMBIT ENERGY offered the highest price. Of the 12 Retail Electric Providers in this category, 9 changed their rate; among them 3 decreased it and 6 increased it. The 3 providers that kept their prices the same the whole month are: DIRECT ENERGY, FIRST CHOICE POWER and AMBIT ENERGY.

GEXA ENERGY had the lowest electricity rate spot while TXU ENERGY had the highest price spot in the above table. Seven of them (58%) changed their price within the month of June. Most of them increased their rate but one provider decreased it: MP2 ENERGY TEXAS LLC.

Only 1 REP, INFUSE ENERGY LLC, decreased its rate during the month of June 2021. The two other Retail Electric Providers of this table kept their rates the same.
