Our team at EnergySavings.com is capturing daily snapshots of electricity plans from the Power to Choose website. Data collected* is analyzed monthly to give you an understanding of the offers available and the market trends. Grouping the most common plans by category, we analyze the same plan categories every month to give you an apples-to-apples comparison.
Our analysis is based on information captured once daily from the Power to Choose website, and rates may vary at any time. We have excluded from our analysis plans that are marked as “Minimum usage fees/credits,” “Time of Use,” and “Prepaid” according to the data captured from Power to Choose.
AEP Central TDU was, in March, one of the most impacted area in terms of losing REPs (access the full report for last month here). We clearly see the opposite trend in April as the number of players in each category is increasing for the most common products and is at least stable for the 100% green product types. The number of REPs in these 3 categories globally increased:
The following REPs started to show offers in April for at least one pf the above plan categories: FIRST CHOICE POWER, CPL RETAIL ENERGY, DIRECT ENERGY, TRIEAGLE ENERGY LP. Only one REP was no longer showing offers of the above types during the same month: TEXPO ENERGY. However, they did offer other plans on Power to Choose during this period.
Regarding the rates, the market seems to be gaining some stability. Only the Variable rate category is showing a significant decrease (-23% for the lowest rate, -10% for the average). Having new players in this last category offering competitive rates explains this trend.

The 100% green plans category is also gaining some stability. No variation at all in terms of number of REPs. Regarding the lowest rates, the 9% decrease in the variable rate category is explained by INFUSE ENERGY LLC which decreased its rate. The 10 % decrease in the highest rate of the 24mo fixed rate plan category is explained by GREEN MOUNTAIN ENERGY decreasing the price between the 2 months.

FIRST CHOICE POWER and FRONTIER UTILITIES tied for the lowest price while AMIBIT ENERGY offered the highest price in this category. Most of these REPs kept the same price all month. Only 37% changed it and there is no global trend to underline here as 6 decreased it while 5 of them increased it.

SOUTHERN FEDERAL POWER had the lowest price spot while AMBIT ENERGY had the highest price spot for variable plans in April. Seven of those REPs (representing 58%) changed their price and they all followed the same trend as they decreased it.

Similar to the previous category, GEXA ENERGY holds the lowest electricity rate spot for the 100% green 24-month fixed rate product. GREEN MOUNTAIN ENERGY COMPANY and AP GAS & ELECTRIC (TX) LLC offered the highest rate. These REPs changed their rates this month: GEXA ENERGY (increase), CLEANSKY ENERGY (decrease) and RHYTHM (increase.)
