April 2021: What is the electricity market trend for the TNMP delivery area?

Our team at EnergySavings.com is capturing daily snapshots of electricity plans from the Power to Choose website. Data collected* is analyzed monthly to give you an understanding of the offers available and the market trends. Grouping the most common plans by category, we analyze the same plan categories every month to give you an apples-to-apples comparison.

Our analysis is based on information captured once daily from the Power to Choose website, and rates may vary at any time. We have excluded from our analysis plans that are marked as “Minimum usage fees/credits,” “Time of Use,” and “Prepaid” according to the data captured from Power to Choose.

1Trends compare in percentage the rate of the previous month for the same category of products. This table compares the lowest price offered by each REP that offered the respective type of plan in each month. The “Highest” row above compares the highest of the lowest price offered by a REP.

In this delivery area, the two fixed rate plan categories are globally stable. The only variation was an increase of 1% of the lowest rate in the first category. Even if REPs in these two categories changed their prices, the global picture is steady between March and April. We see the same for the number of REPs: Even if the number of players stayed the same, when looking in details, we see that some electricity providers stopped showing offers and others entering the game, but the global number remained exactly equal.

REPs that were offering electricity plans (from the categories above) on the Power to Choose website in March and stopped in April are:
VARSITY ENERGY LLC
GRIDPLUS ENERGY
TEXPO ENERGY

REPs that started to show electricity plans (in the categories above) in April are:
DIRECT ENERGY
FIRST CHOICE POWER
TRIEAGLE ENERGY LP

The Variable rate category is showing more variation. First, FIRST CHOICE POWER and DIRECT ENERGY started to show offers in April, increasing the number of players by 22%. Secondly, those 2 electricity providers offered low variable electricity rates, so the result is a global decrease as shown in the table: -29% for the lowest rate and –10% of the average.

The number of REPs in the 100% green product categories decreased only in the first category: VARSITY ENERGY LLC is not showing offers anymore in April. In the two other categories, the REPs stayed exactly the same (while the previous report was showing a 10 % of loss!).

The 100% green 12mo-fixed rate category is showing slight decreases: the lowest rate by 3% and the average by 1%. The highest one was stable. This can be explained by GEXA ENERGY, CLEANSKY ENERGY and GREEN MOUNTAIN ENERGY COMPANY decreasing their electricity rates.

The 100% green 24mo-fixed rate category is showing a similar decreasing trend: -8 % for the highest, -4% for the average and no change for the lowest.  CLEANSKY ENERGY and GREEN MOUNTAIN ENERGY COMPANY decreased their electricity rates.

The 100% green variable rate category has a lowest rate that decreased by 14%, a highest rate that is stable and the average decreased by 4%. This trend is explained by INFUSE ENERGY LLC applying a decrease in their price in April.

If more than one product was available from the same REP for a given type of plan, EnergySavings.com only included the one with the lowest rate in its analysis. Please note that as products and rates may change at any time in the day on Power to Choose, EnergySavings.com’s analysis is based on information captured in its single daily snapshot, and therefore cannot guarantee that every product and rate made available in the month has been captured. Please reach out to [email protected] if you feel that any meaningful data has not been captured and EnergySavings.com may, at its sole discretion, issue a correction to the report. The analysis is performed by excluding plans that are marked as “Minimum usage fees/credits”, “Time of Use”, and “Prepaid” according to the data captured from Power to Choose. For more information about the electricity plans mentioned in this report, please consult both the Electricity Fact Label (EFL) and Terms of Service (TOS) for those plans. Those documents are available on the Power to Choose site if the plan is still currently offered. The rates listed may differ if the REP has changed its pricing.
